Tan Guardian has received from the
Union Commercial College a circular de-
scribing the summer course that in to be
conducted at this institution. Shorthand-
and Typawriting, together with penman-
ship, grammar etc. will comprise one
course. ln connection with this course
is the training odlee where students are
taught todo work as it is _ done in the
leading business oillces. Hence it is
when they leave they are able to do all
Kinds of oliice work, such as manifoldlng
mimeographing, letter filing etc. etc.
There will also be a class in Teiegraphy
and as this will be the only class of its
kind on P. E. Island we have no doubt
many will take advantage

Henry Palmer, a young man connned in
Queen’s Ccimty jail attempted to commit
suicide by tearing a strip oi! a blanket and
hanging himself to the bars over the door
oi his cell. The strip broke, however.
and Palmer was found a short time after-
wards lying dn one near, by .truer Hamill
.who was bringing in his dinner. The
latter thought he was sleeping but after
examination an assistant was called an i
he was carried into the corridor where he
recovered shortly. The unfortunate man
was awaiting trial inthe Supreme Court
for jail breaking while serving a term lor
larceny. 'He had been acting strangely
during tne morning and for some time
there was doubt as to his sanity. Ho
will be examined by Dr. Goodwill and
Handrahan and if pronounced insane will
be removed to Faiconwood.

the wharves Saturday entertained one of

morning his suit, watch, and likewise his

Cumlniskey, Fort Augustus was largely
attended vesterday morning. Service
was conducted by Rev. A. J. McDonald
and interment was at Si. Patrick`s
Cemetery. The funeral cortege contained

cluded a large number irom Charlotte-

Rev. G. M. Youno. at the service in
First Methodist Church last evening
thanked Mrs. Rogers, of Fairholm,for her
presentationto the congregation ot an
individual communion service, and lor a
naw communion table, the gift of the
young men of the church. Mr. Young
took lor his text the words inscribed on
the table, “I am the Bread of Life."
A. G. Putnam of the Royal Bank of
Canada, leaves this morning for Moncton
where he has been appointed accountant.
Mr. Putnam during his residence in the
oily made many friends who will regret
his departure. He was a leading member
of Zion Church Choir and the Y.M.C A.
He will be succeeded in the Bank by M.
A. Wilson. The Y. M. C. A., of which
he was one oi the directors will greatly
miss his Christian influence and sunny
disposition.
