Irvine, Production service, Charlottetown, reports that there is an increasing demand for bred sows. To meet. this de- malld. many of the Yorkshire breeders in the Province have a considerable number of such sows available. in Canada has been set at 8,000,- 000 head slaughtered commercially. This is an increase of 26% over that of 1942. Even if this goal be attained. there will be an over-all deficiency of pork products. It has been stated officially that if this production is not attained, there will be s serious deficiency in filling the bacon contract. It may therefore be necessary to consider whether to fall short on export bacon commitments or re- gulate hog slaughtering and the domestic distribution or pork. lit seems likely that. this action may become necessary in view of the relatively heavy and rapid increase required to reach the hog produc- tion goal within the year. “Latest Montreal live stock sales are reported as follows: twenty-five to fifty cents higher.
