It has been well said that Sir Wilfrid has
attracted to his banner all, the disloyal,
pro-German element in Canada and driven
off the majority ‘of his best pro-British
patriotic supporters. Not a fourth of his
English-speaking supporters -in -the. last
Parliament have been endorsed as his nom-
inees in- the present campaign, and his
supporters in Quebec are mostly' National-
ists who are tyranizing over-the loyal ele-
ment which is a much larger proportion
than the noise of the Nationalists would
lead one to believe.
Now comes _word from Kitchener, for-
merly .Berlin,-Qnt., _that Sir Robert _BQ1'defi
has been refused a hearing by the German
element there. -What does this signify?
Does it not bear out what has been all along
contended that the majority of the Gerinnii
vote in Canada, whatever its origin, is in
favor of_ Kaiserism and against the British
connection? What happened in South
Bruce in 1913? Mr. Truax appealed to the
German element there on the ground that
Borden was supporting Britain against
Germany, and forthwith the Germans re-
turned him to defeat Sir Robert’s alleged
policy. When the loyal people of Berlin
voted to change the name from that of the
capital of Germany to that of Kitchener the
popular hero of the ~war, the German ele-
