Norwegian mail steamship Haakon
VII, and the seizure of mails on board
by a German submarine have been fol-
lowed by a protest to Berlin and it
demand for the return of the mails to
Norway. The I-Irakon VII was bound
from Bergen to England. ~ ' »

resentment. The Aftenposten says:

pared with the damage done to our
country. The theft of neutral mails is
not decent warfare."

some of us. When I saw the gas com-
ing I stuffed a pocket-handkerchief in

breathed at long intervals until the
gas went away. A drink of water af-
terwards made me all right. The next
thing wo had to contend with was
the German-coming right for us en
masse. Everyone that was able got
his gun, and after s. good fierce battle
we beat them hack. But. such a sacri-
fice of human life- men and horses
dead. lying in heaps, and time may
never be afforded to get them all
buried.
