Other production estimates in Wdflyb CF01! “Port were: Com- mercial sugar beets, 701.000 tons °°1T1Dared with 711,700 in 1941: turnips. mansolds, etc, 31,658,000 hundredwelght compared with 3i,- 354000; fodder ccrn, 4,323,600 ton; compared with 4,153,800; alfalfa, 3.035.000 tons compared with 2,- 726.800. The potato estimate of 43,047,- 000 hundrcdwelght represents the highest production for the Domin- ion slnce 1934 when a crop of 48,- 02,000 hundredweight was harvest- e . The 1042 yields in Prince Ed- ward Island are "notably better" than s yenr ago, while the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick yields are also heavier. In Quebec and Ontario the crop is slightly under 1941, and below the average yield for these provinces. The Mani- toba. potato crop is giving “the same yield as in 1941." while saskatchewan and Alberta are digging the best potato crops in many years. The British Columbia crop is practically unchanged frcm a year ago. Pasture conditions at sept, 30 were appreciably below average in Nova Bcotia and New Brunswick. and just slightly below average in Prince Edward Island, Quebec and British Columbia. In the Prairie Provinces and Ontario, pastures were better than usual at this do. . The production of potatoes this year was from 505,000 acres com- pared with 507,100 acres in 194i, yields per acre of 85 cwt. and 77 cwt. respectively. By rovlnces the production in hun rediwelght ls estimated as follows (1941 fig- ures in brackets): Prince Edward Island 4,773,000 (3,192,000); Nova Bcotia 2,498,000 (1,887,000); New Brunswick 6,414,000 (5,7360,000); Quebec 10,990,000 (ll,475,000); On- tario 7,076,000 0.5790000); Mani- toba 2,610,000 (3,150,000); Sask. atchewan 4.485.000 (2,585,000); Al- berta 2,708,000 (1,950,000); British Columbia 1,495,000 (1,498,000).
