" ; ro - ~ I AQ ll ~4 J 1 ‘ 5 ' I ' ~s ~ Th To the People of Prince Edward lsland (Continued ) How is it that so many people who have accizmulated money through the profits of their business and by saving from their incomes a certain amount yearly, show such poor judgment when it comes to ilivcstiu money? The experience of the last three or four years has shown how uusage it _is for the ordinary business or professional niau io engage \:`n specunltion of any kiud. This is something that lie is altogether unused to and therefore cannot expect to cope successfully with the trained and heartless nlnnipulator of stocks and bonds, whose busin ess it isf to unload this class of security on investors at hi li rates and buy them 'back again later on when the public gets tired of constallgy decreasing prices. As '.1 matter of fact the public rarely buys stocks of any kind when they are cheap. They must get ilie contagion during the period of con- staiitly increasing and ficnl often inflaiirg prices. 'lhe ordinary'dictalcs of business prudence whicll demands that one should buy in a cheap and sell in a Hear market are altogether ignored and the reverse is usually the case and the purchases are made .it the top of the market and usually sold when they get nearly the bottom. " \¢Ve had very hard work a few years ago to convince people to allow us to invest their ironey in the farm lands, at their tllen very low price. VI/'e were thoroughly convinced cf their value and knew that there must be a great aug- mentation in price. All the advice given to those people by others in flic west was agains/t the venture, still We made a great success of it and we thii.i. there are great opportunities now. A large number of people hold the class of prop- erti' that we deal in and have no facilities for selling it and no customers for it. The Canadian Pacific Railway was unable to sell lands in :my quantity until the land companies took hold of it and disposed of it for them. 'i he only market that there was for Canadian Pacific Railway lands, previous to the move- ment started by the land companies in 1901, was fo the liomesteader on theadjoin- ing Cnoveriinient lands, after he got financially able to purchase. A number of peoplein Winnipeg and elsewhere, seeing tlie success of the land companies in St. Paul, contcived the idea of getting large tracts cf land and pointing out what had lla; peued in St. Paul, induced a large number of farmers and others in Eastern Canada to purchase their lands. The result is that there are iiuniense arreas cf this land still uucultivated and tlie purchasers find themselves loaded up with property which they have no facilities *or selling' except through the `aid ofthe land companies. There are no large tracts of land at the present time for sale in Western Canada. The Government is not selling ally land except to hoiliesteaders and that carries witll it homestead duties. Our opportunity for doing business comes largely now through the small investor who has a section or two of land which he finds that he wants to sell. The be'ter and safer way for the investor who wishes to procure more than three per cent for his money, is to put it side by side with that of experienced' inen who know the country and who have their own savings invested in like manner, and whose, reputation depends on their making a success of the venture. This is why we consider the stock which we are o`fl`e`i"ii*1g, of the I-Iaslam>Larid and In- vestment Company, such a good investiueut. This company has the proud satis- faction of knowing that its customers have invariably made money as well as those- wllo have been illvcstiug theiriiioney tllrougli it. _ During th-f last few uioulhs this Company have received letters which can be seen, from the following muniries, ciiquiriilg about our land and Invest- ments: Uctilunrk, Swedeli, Geil11nny_ Holland, Clliua.
