May Increase Pensions Of Retired Clergymen TORONTO (CP) - The pension board of the Church of England in Canada at the next general synod meeting will propose an in- crease in pensions for retired clcrgymcn, their widows and chil- 'en. The increase, which would be effective Jan. 1, 1956. is dependent on synod approval of a two-per- cent increase in contributions to be paid byzthe salary which in most cases is the parish. The board, in a notice of motion placed before the executive coun- cil Friday, proposed that the pen- sion for ciergymcn contributing to the plan now or in the future, be raised to 330 from 322.50 for each SCi'VlCE ycar, the minimum in be sl'.200. The p r o p o s e (I increase for bishops now contributing is the same, with an additional 830 a service y c a r while they are bishops. Minimum would be 51,600 and maximum 31,920. Modern Steel May Join Souris Fleet There is a possibility that a steel draggcr with a carryiiig capacity of 150,000 to 200,000 pounds oi fish may join the fishing fleet at Souris plant supplied with high grade raw next year. Two business men from Iceland. with long experience in the fishing industry, are combining with Island interests in negotiations for thei purchase of a modern steel druggerl, in Europe. Such a boat would have three to four times the cargo room of the draggers now operating out of Souris. That such an ambitious venture in the talking stage, reflects the speed with which Souris is de- veloping as a fishing centre and the growing realization of its lteyy i location as a Maritime fishing port. l Willi Griffith Fisheries opening 9. large new filletiiig plant in the spring, and a modern type fish meal factory due to go into pro- duction in February, more drag- gers will be needed to keep the workers busy. y A large draggcr of the type pro- posed would go far to case any shortage of boats which might a- rise, when two large plants are processing fish instead of one as at present. FISH MEAL PLANT The fish meal establishment. to be known as Souris Sea Food Pro- ducts, is located a short distance east of Souris, on the railway line. It will use fish offal from fishing points all over the Island.
