‘ Bernadine Hall Lounge. STUDENT COUNCIL MINUTES The U.P.E.I. Student Council meeting was held Sunday, November 5, 1972 in Ten Council members were present: Angela Coughlin, ‘ David Curley, Rosemary Curley, Pat Duffy, Bob Gray, Linda Lidstone, Len McCardle, Marion MacEachern, Bill McIntyre and Norbert Moran. Five members were absent: Leo Kelly, Keith Milligan, Bruce Ogilvie, Bruce Grasse and Ian Pridham. RECORDING SECRETARY: Moved by Pat Duffy/Linda Lidstone that Leslie Marion be appointed Recording Secretary. Motion carried. COURSE EVALUATION CONFERENCE: Pat Duffy discussed the Course Evaluation Conference. Approximately 35 students and 20 professors and administration will attend the three—day con- ference - November 10, 11 and 12 - at Gregor's—by—the-Sea. Cost will be shared by the Administration and Student Union. CONFERENCE OF MARITIME STUDENT UNIONS: Pat Duffy discussed the Conference of Maritime Student Unions to be held in Montgomery Hall on November 17, 18 and 19. Registration will take place in Montgomery Hall on November 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. Topics to be discussed at the conference include entertainment, tighter control Of Student Council funds, and appointment of Business Manager. MEDICAL PLAN: Bob Gray discussed the pros and cons of Zurich vs. Blue Cross Medical Plans. At present the obvious differences are twofold: 1. rates with Blue Cross are considerably less for non-Canadian students and coverage is similar; 2. system of drug refunds: Zurich - the student pays and is reimbursed for the cost Of prescribed drugs. ‘ Blue Cross - the student pays $1.00 handling fee only, when he receives the drugs, which is non—refundable . The matter is to be further looked into and voted on at a subsequent meeting of the Council. , BUSES: Moved by Norbert Moran/Bob Gray that two buses be procured for the Acadia football game at Acadia on November 11, the cost to be borne by the students @$5.00 per person and the remainder to be sdbsidized by the Student Council from monies realized from a Pig & Whistle at the Barn on Thursday, November 9. Motion carried. ADVERTISING COMMITTEE: Norbert Moran clarified the duties of the advertising committee: 1. responsible for external and internal advertising for the Student Union. 2. responsible for external advertising for Student Union sub—committees. The sub—committees are responsible for their own internal advertising. BUDGET: Lenny McCardle — the budget has been tabled as further work is needed. CATERING SERVICE FOR THE BARN: Moved by Len McCardle/Pat Duffy that a contract be entered into with Beaver Foods similar to the present contract with the addition that the Student Union subsidize Beaver Foods up to $35 per week in order that the Barn remain open week nights and weekends. Motion carried. OTHER BUSINESS: 1. Mike Duffy asked Council and committees for suggestions as to space needs for the Student Union. 2. Mike Duffy asked Council to look into call letters for Radio U.P.E.I. Criteria — four letters, the first being a C. ' 3. Student Directory: Motion by Norbert Moran/Rosemary~Curley that Peter Chan seek the most suitable financial arrangements and have a Student Directory printed. Motion carried. 4. Open House: Moved by Lenny McCardle/Pat Duffy that the Student Union allocate $500 for Open House, November 24. Motion carried. 5. A.R.C.U.P. Conference: Moved by Norbert Moran/Linda Lidstone that $200 be allocated to send two members of the Cadre staff to the conference in St. John's, Newfoundland on November 10, 11.and 12.
