HERBERT An adjourned meeting of the share- holders of the company to be known as the “Hillsborough Cheese and Butter Company, Limited,” was held in the hall on Thursday, Jan. 24th, Mr. Ewen Me- |. Eachern in the chair. Mr. Joseph Power read the report of the committee appointed to-meet with a similar committee, which was to be appointed by the Hazel Brook party, which was in substance as follows: : Your committee beg leave to report that in pursuance of their duty they proceeded to Hazel Brook on the 19th inst., to attend a meeting that was called by the Haz2l Brook party to consider the proposition that we had made to them. ‘T'he’ meeting having positively declined to. consider the proposition, the committee were power- lesa to effect the object for which they were appointed, and to such an extent did the spirit of antagonism prevail that a selid vote was taken by the meeting with but one dissenting voice, that at Hazel Brook they would erect their factory, and at Hazel Brook only. Your committee, therefore, cannot close without advising, as a union seems now beyond hope, that immediate action be taken as to the erec- tion of a Cheese and Butter Factory at Pippey’s Corner. - Mr. Power also read_a statement show- ing the nuinber of pounds “of milk-manu- factured by the Cornwall ‘Cheese Factory this season; also the number of cows ne- cessary to contribute said quantity in the time the factory was in operation at two galloas per cow per day, said factory was expected to pay a dividend of over 20 per cent. At the request of William Welsh, E<q., the stock lists were read, The number of cows subscribed amounted to 400; the number of sharea to 265, at $10 per share. A letter was then presented by Wm. Welsh, M. P., from Dr. Robertson, Montague, advising, if possible, the union of the two parties, After some discussion, the meeting con- cluded that it would be a waste of time to further discuss the matter with them, as they seemed determined to hold fast to Hazelbrook. The following resolution was then pre- sented to the meeting by Mr. David Me Donald : Whereas, that as the offer of 2 compro- mise made at our last meeting hae been unanimously rejected; and W hereas, eaid party persists in canvas- sing territory occupied by Vernon River for at least two seasons, and within three and a half miles of their factory, with the only apparent purpose of outvoting any just proposition we might make to them ; and } Whereas, This meeting believes it to be | wrong to infringe on said territory, con- trary to the expressed wish of their direc- tore ; Therefore Resolved, That we have no further discussion of the matter with them, but proceed at once to the . erection of a factory on the only site where’ milk can be profitably taken- from all parties wishing to contribute, viz, Pippey’s Corner. On motion Mr. Daniel Stewart, Kenloch, and Mr. James Farquharson, Bunbury, were appointed directors in the place ef Mr. George Stewart and James Monaghan, resigned. On motion of Mr. Daniel Stewart it waa decided that 25 per cent of the gnbscribed stock be collected within ten Gays, each director being appointed to collect “tn his own district. On motion, Mr. Albert Mutch was ap- pointed Treasurer. Quite a number of the shareholders, having come prepared, paid in the requir- ed sum. The meeting then dismissed, and the di- rectors proceeded to Pippey’s Corner where a suitable site was obtained from Mr. Benj. Stewart at a reasonable price. Percy Morcn, Sec.
