Charman gave the report of the committee on Evan- gclismi snd Social Service; he also moved the following resolu- tions, which were adoptcd; vigor- ous attention be given to edu- eating people to the value of the Christian Sunday; aggressive etiringr-"sm of all kinds to be actively supported; support given to the P. E. l. Tumperauce Federation, and our ministers to present the temperance issue to their people during February; strong opposition to all forms of gambling, with the committee t0 ask for the repeal of the part-i mutual betting Act; that the hearty congratulations of Presby- tery be sent to those standing for civic elections on the basis of the statement sponsored by the Char- lottetown Board of Trade appear- ing in the Guardian of Feb. and a copy of this i-molution to be sent to the new Mayor and Coun- cil. Our Chapter gave cash prizes of $3.00 each to five of the City Schools. These prizes were given to Grade 7 pupils for "Cit- lzenshlp", "Marked Progress" 01' |"Sustalned Effort." We purchased 50 calendars. l5 of which WON‘ iglven to schools in the City and l5 "to schools in king's County. “l "Once again n $25.00 scholarship lwns given to the Musical Festival. ‘ "Our Chapter purchased 40 pic- turen of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, to be placed in the schools of King's County, All the Chapters of l’.O.D.E. in "J11! Province agreed to buy these NC- turcs or those of the King and Queen, so that they might be av- allable to all schools uu-oushwt the Province. We have given them to the Board of Education for dis- trlbutlon. "We also decided this yen- to adopt n school in King's County. However, due to the road condi- tions and lateness of the season it has been impossible to vlst this school yet. Some very fine books havé been donated for the library of this school, and it ls hoped to place them there when travelling permits. "During the year two commit- tee meetings were held, consisting of the Regents and Educational secretaries of the four Island chapters, and presided over ‘ by Mrs. T. A. Campbell, Summer-side, our Provincial Educational Secre- tnry. These eetlngs proved very i successful and were most helpful to your secretary. “w, purchased a film "Open- ing of Parliament." which was given over to the National Film Board so that 1t can be shown at the various schools throughout the Island. “In connection with Empire Cor- respondence we were eble to se- cure the names of 33 children from Prince Street School who wished to be linked as ‘pen-pals’ with children of other parts oi the Empire. "At our March meeting your educational secretary read a pap- er on ‘Australia,’ following which two films on that country and its people were shown by Mr. Mar- tin of the Film Board. "At the April meeting Misc Mildred Harrington gave a talk on Trinidad, which was greatly enjoyed. Later that evening Mr. Martin showed our film ‘Opening of Canadian Parliament.’ Our members are grateful to Miss Harrington and to Mr. Martin for their help. "We have continued our work of distributing books from the library at the Sanitoriusn to the patients each week, throughout the entire year. As convenor of your library committee I take this opportunity of thanking all who so cheerfully give of thelr time to this important and inter- esting work. It is apparent that our efforts are appreciated and, knowing this, it makes us feel that the time spent there is time well spent. Although this ls not strict- ly an educational project, lt looks as though I'm to be convenor again for 1950, so I ask for your continued support."
