Branch, Annapolis Royal, who has

months, left Monday morning on re

unless checked. These pests have al-
ready done much injury in New

erous next year.

the institute are due to all who kindly
assisted in giving the entertainment.

lottetown Baptist church was the
scene of a very interesting event on
Wednesday, August 28th when Miss
Lily M. Rose of Lakeville was uni-
ted in marriage to Mr. Leigh T. Web-
ster of Morell. Only a few of his im-
mediate friends and relatlvei of the
contracting parties were present. The
ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Chas. R. Freeman. The bridal party
motored from the bride'a home at
Lakeville, to the city, stayed for a
short time at the hotel, and left for
the church. The party entered the
church to the exquisite strains of the
wedding march rendered by- Mrs.
(Rev.) Chas. Freeman. The bride was
tastefully sttired in a tailored suit of
nigger brown with hat to match, and
was attended by her sister Miss
Gladys while the groom was ably sup-
ported by Mr. William B. Bakers' of
Lakeville. Alter the ceremony the
harm' couple received the hearty con-
gratuiatidns of all present: Tiiily were

TWELVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY
DOLLARS a month is the sum asked
for from the Province for the sup-
port of Canadian War Prisoners. The
Treasurer has been able to remit this
amount to the Toronto Headquarters
of the Red Cross for the last three
`months, and hopes to benhle to meet
obligations for the future; only if
this is to be done it will be necess-
ary -for all adoptions to continue their
subscriptions. Donations are also ask
ed for from societies and individuals
who cannot undertake adoptions.
KILLED IN ACTION.-Mrs. Heath
McQunrrie,`Victoria, received a. tele-
gram on Wednesday conveying to her
the sad news that her husband

Can. Battalion. has recently been
killed’ in action. The deceased enlist-
ed in the second draft of the 105th
and has been in France for some
time. He leaves to mourn a mother,
Mrs, Albert Clarke, a wife, and one
small son, Richard, one sister, Mrs.
Earle Lord. a half-brother Wesley
Clarke, employed in the Bank of
Nova Scotia, Victoria, and a brother
Glenn, in France. The sympathy of
the whole community goes out to the
bereaved family.-V.

GLAD TO HELP THE SOEDIEQB.
-ln Toronto recently a véry tang-
ible and practical movement »wa.sfin-
stituted by the Diiily News' of"ithat
City with a' view to e:g‘c_ilhraging
thoughtfulness towards soldiers. The
News had s. number of heartshaped
placards made on which were ,print-
ed the words, “Glad to Give Soldiers
A Lift.” These cards were offered to
any autoists who would display them
prominently on theircars and act oc-
cordingly. As a result they were
taken up`ln hundreds and now prac-
tically every car in the city carries
ope and very many soldiers enjoy s
drive nnd'an outing that otherwise
would be beyond their reach and for
which they felt they had no right to
ask. The Guardian has a limited num-
ber of these placards and will be glad
to hand them to any owners who may
desire to hold out this kind invitat-
ion to the soldiers in the city.

promotedtto the rank of Corporal and

two years of continuous fighting his
bravery and devotion to duty was fur-
ther rewarded by him being recom-
mended for s commission. in the fall
of 1017 he went to England took his

demise. He had been in failing health
for some time. Last November he suf-
feredva complete breakdown and was
ordered an entire rest and change.
His wife predeceased him and there
are left to mourn his memory, three
sons-Kenneth, connected 'with the
Halifax Tram Railway Company;Wil-
bur, overseas. and Chesley, in the
Signal Corps at Halifax.
