A large area of woodland at Hopefield and Iris has been devas- tated by a fire of unknown origin which started some days ago in the vicinity of Wood Islands and which gained in intensity as a result of exceptionally dry weather. Yesterday a. call for assistance was sent in to the Provincial Gov- ernment by Mr, Charles MacDon- ald, Wood Islands, and was answer- ed by Hcn. Dr. Maelvlillan, Acting Sergeant Tralnor and six constables of the R..C.M.P. motored to the scene and directed the efforts of the firefighters, who were success- "ful in preventing the destruction of a number of buildings in the path of the flames. ACCIDENT —.Mr. Wilfred Diamond who is on, holiday from China. where hel travels in action with the} Canadian Railways, had the lnis-, fortune to be injured in a car accident recently while on a visit to his home in Northam. Mr. Dia- mond was driving near Nortliam" when something went wrong with ‘the steering gear of the car and they ran into the ditch. Mr. Diam- one gotoutandwasbehind the oar when the party who was with him| accidentally backed the car, knock- ing him down and running over his leg. The accident resulted in a compou ’ fracture and Mr. Diam- ond ls now in the Prince County‘ Hospital, where he ls likely to re- main for a little while.
