AN INTERUSPING CASE. Fiom Prince Edward Taland the Sun hearse of oo interesting case of partisan io vestigation. The accused in this inetance wasthe keeper ofa railway station ina small village in Queen’s county. The station keeper was admittedly a compe- tent man ona the only excuse that seekers for the office could make for dismissal was acharge of partisanship. Thecharye was accordingly made. Commissioner Palmer, himself a vigorous partisan, holds the inqiries in Prince Edward Ilan, in consideration of a handsome sum per day. } Of course he was ready for action. Tue Witnesses called to sup yor the charges had no evidence to give, and so Commiss loner Pa'mer started in ona fishing exped:- tion. The people of the village were summoned, one after another, and questioned on the sulject of the sta- tion =omaster’s partisansbip. In this way the whole town was summoned, each witness of course receiv ing the usual fee. When all the residents of the pace and some of the neighbors within a consider- able distance had ben brought before the commissioner the charge hi had to be dismissed. No evidence in s"pport of the presecution could be got after elf the out lay of time and money. The censequence 18 that the station master is still iu his place, while the treasury of Cavada is pay- ing the bills. This isa match for the Quebec case in which Mr. Milock’s commissioner put in a bill for $25 a day for severai days expen- ded in starting an inquiry intoaten dollar postmastership. Certain political con- siderations required that the accneed postmaster should be retained in his place, and the Quebec commissioner was ordered toabandon the inquiry when he had only got it well under way. In both cases the GGlicer stays and the country pays. —Jt. Jobo Sun. HOME NEWS FROM ABROAD.
