Byrne, of the Nortlfwest Mounted Police, arrived in the cit-Y last evening over the Intercolonial Railway, troin Charlottetown, P. E. r I. with 32 recruits. Inspector Morris started _ recruiting on St. Patrick's Day, said Ser- geant Major Byrne, and we have got the pick of the Island. The district was lim- ited to a certain number of men, and so eager were the applicants that the choos- ing was made comparatively easy. The whole of the recruits come up to the standard, 5 feet 8 inches, with 36 inch c`iest measurement. Many of the re- cruits belong to the leading families of the Island, and should after being brok- en in to a. soldier-‘s life give a good account of themselves. They were put up at the St. James Hotel until this morning, when they will leave by the C. P. R. for Regina.
