An exhibition—$200 for two ears, was awarded Mr. John M. McLeod, alleyfield. Bursaries of $150 annually for two years were awarded George C. Rebert- son, Charlottetown, and Fulton J. Coffin. Special Bursaries of $100 a year, were awarded to Judson Crawford, of Charlotte- town, and Kenneth J. Martin, Eldon. The following students having satisfied the examiners at the examination for exhibi- tions were exempt frem matriculation examination, F. J. Coftin, Kenneth J. Martin, Judson Crawford. John M. Meo- Leod, George E. Robertsen. Regarding tne result the Herald says :—‘‘ Of the fif- teen who succeded, five were students of Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, which speaks well for that institution. Five more were prepared in Pictou Academy, (for we believe that Aiton and McLean were students of Pictou Academy, though not so mentioned in the awards) certifying to the excellence of that seat of learning. Of the other five, two were students in the Halifax High School, two in the Previncial Normal School, and one is set down as being prepared by private study. The World's London cable says:—Mr. Goldwin Smith’s charge against the Reyal Family for not utilizing their epportuni- ties for promoting great and useful works has been gracefully referred to by the Prince of Wales at Swansea. More singular still was the ofticions-looking rejoinder in the Times, which is popularly believed to have been inspired by the Queen. Royalty is industrieus enough in Great Britain, but muck more could be done in Ireland. Another unusual interposition ef royalty in pepular topics was the Princess of Wales’ refusal to patronize the ladies’ movement to wear only British goods. The move- ment is really an off-shoot on the Fair Trade agitation. The Princess’ reply was dictated in high official quarters. In connection with this subject the interesting fact, well- known in journalism, is iecalled that the Queen once wrote a leader in the Times.
