Mr Gabriel Chlssson is certain- ly deserving of congratulations for the wonderful showing his school choruses have made at the Pro- vincial Musical Festival this year. Your first places and a second is indeed an achievement to be proud of. It speaks well for his teaching of music at Summerside High School. I O 0 Critics may ask, “Is music in- struction in the schools a frili?" We‘d say, yes, it probably is a frill Like the frills and iurbelows on the dress of a beautiful young girl go- ing forth to meet romance and ad- \'cnlui'e. what would life be like without the frills and trimmings, we wonder. What would Christmas be Ilkl‘ without the wreaths and bells and tree decorations? All frills. marl: you. but essential to u f-.iIl enjoyment of the festive sea.- S . on 0 I O Wiicn we saw the .\inlcnkov, and read about his life, V II occurred to us that he was a man without frills, who would not likely lolEi'ai': such impractical things ‘ around him. The Puritans of Crom- v.-t~ll's time were honest and sincere. but completely devoid of frills. and so the regime could not endure in the face of determined resistance from a fun-loving, frill-loving Eng- - land. . . . Thinks heavens for the frills that ‘mid spice to the humdrum busi- noss of everyday life. Of course. tr-ills must not take the place of regular academic instruction in the srsioois. Frills is Just the frosting on the cake, not the cake itself. —Al.f, TA,\'ES due Bedeque School District No. 117, must be paid by May 22nd. 1954, or they will be handed in for collection.
