A SAD FATALlTY.-- Never in the
history of Newfnne has a sadder ac-
cident occurred than that of Tuesday.
August 3rd, when Bryan Clay aged
seventeen years, only son of Rev.
Fred M. and Mrs. Clay met instant
death at the Newfane Bakery, thro-
ugh coming in contact with a live wire
carrying power to that establishment.
lt seems that the young man who had
just completed the day's work was
emerging from the bakery at about
tlvc o'clock, and for some uuaccount~
able reason stepped upon a little
- S
at that particular point his body re-
ceived the full force of the current,
and death was almost instantaneous.
Medical and other help was rushed to
the spot but all to no avail. Rev. Mr.
Clay with Mrs. Clay were both absent
at Cassadaga. New York, where Mr.
Clay had just accepted a 'very en-
thusiastic call to the pastorate of the
Baptist Church. Mrs. Clay was re-
turning home nnd arrived about an
hour after the son had passed away.
This death is very untimely, and in
unusual measure the sympathy of the
entire town has gone out to the
grief stricken family. Without con-
scious effort Bryan was one of those
who somehow wove himself in the af-
fetcions of all with whom he came in
contact. Genital in disposition, readl-
ly acquiring and retaining friends, he
was one of the most popular young
men in Newfane. Sunny and cheerful
by nature, he was the devoted com-
parrion of a fond father, and the joy
and Dride of his mother. During the
frequent and sometimes prolonged ab-
sence of the father in evangelistic
work, Bryan was the man of the
ome. loyally fulfilling his duties. In
where he was so well known will be
be missed, indeed. He leaves to
mother, and three sisters, Miss Edna
of Lee, Mass., Mrs. George Goodridge
of this town and Ruth at home. The
fmleral service held at the home of
the parents were conducted by Rev.
ll. B. Killam, pastor of the Baptist

of Mrs. Irving, widow of the late John
P. Irving, formerly collector of cus-
toms at Charlottetown. P. E. Island,

ber 68th year. Funeral services were

gret that his brother, Private John
Currie, of the 13th Battalion, form-
erly ol' the 17th and previously re-
ported missing, is now dead, -accord-
ing to the German list. No particu-
lars are given as to date, place or cir-
cumstances of his death. Some time
ago word came that he was a prisoner
in Germany. The deceased who was
27 years of age and unmarried. was
the son of the late Donald Currie and
was born in Charlottetown. Wlicu
about fifteen years of age he removed
to New Glasgow. N. S., where he cu-'
listed with the 17th Battalion. llc-
sides his brother Frank in Clurrlottc-
town, he also leaves one brother,
Alexander, who is now somewhere in
the firing line, having cull.-:tt-tl in
Western Canada; a brother in thc
