Dam .. OTTAWA (CP)—An early cab- inet decision favoring a $20,000,- 000 federal loan to Saskatchewan likely would enable a start this year on the long-discussed South Saskatchewan Dam, Premier T. C. Douglas indicated Wednesday. “I think it will start this year,” the Saskatchewna premier told I reporter as he emerged from a discussion with Prime Minister Diefenbaker about what appar- ently is the final hurdle to be cleared for federal-provinci-al con- struction of the $180,000,000 irriga- tion-power project. Mr. Douglas said other details of the proposed cost - sharing agreement between the two gov- ernments were worked out Tues- day between himself and Agricul- ture minister Harkness. ASK FOR LOAN The premier asked Mr. Diefen- Ibaker for a $20,000,000 loan, re- payable over 20 years at the going federal interest rate plus handling eosts—1ike1y totalling be- tween four and five per cent-to covfr half the province’s outlay for the power end of the project. Mr. Douglas said this is a re- quest for treatment similar to that given Maritime provinces, excdopl: that in the Maritime case full cost of power projects was loaned by Ottawa. at 4% per cent, for repayment over 30 to 40 years. . trict Architect, Department of Public Works, 115 Prince Wil- liam, Saint John, N.B. will supply blueprints and specifi- cation of the work on deposit of a sum of $50.00 in the form of a CERTIFIED bank cheque or money-order payable to the order of the RECEIVER GENE- IRAL OF CANADA.
