     Fencing- ancient art, 
     
     modern sport. It has been 
     
     likened to playing chess and 
     
     running the 100 yard dash at 
     
     the same time. It is a think- 
     
     ing man’s sport. Not that it 
     
     is only meant for men; some 
     
     of the women from the Island 
     
     have made signifigant contri- 
     
     butions to the sport around 
     
     our region as well as nation- 
     
     ally. 
     
    

    
     The sport consists of 
     
     three different weapons: the 
     
     foil, the epee, and the sabre, 
     
     each with their individual 
     
     rules. One of these will cer- 
     
     tainly appeal to the most di- 
     
     verse tastes. Not only is 
     
     there the appeal of a compet- 
     
     itive and recreational club, 
     
     but there are also added 
     
     bonuses such as free coach- 
     
     ing, free equipment use, and,

     free funds for travel to Nova

     recognized as a Europea 
     
     sport, there is a good pos- 
     
     sibility that a Canadian wil 
     
     win a medal-at this year’ 
     
     olympics. As for the Is- 
     
     land, there are many regional 
     
     medal winners, and this yea 
     
     our sabre team is recognized 
     
     as the best in the Maritimes 
     
    

    
     Of course this is not thd 
     
     only aspect of the club; we 
     
     also have parties, films, and 
     
     many other social activities 
     
     The only cost to you is 
     
     trip to the UPEI gym, and 
     
     if-you’re interested enough t¢ 
     
     join, the cost to cover insur 
     
     ance and membership, which 
     
     is next to nothing.
