The recitalist showed a splendid and easy mastery over hir- instrumr-nt interpreting Bach. Gou- zrcd and Handel in a brilliant ye’ sympathetic fashion. A feature of the rrcital was a smooth and melodimu. Andante composed by the organist‘ ,himself. Arid rarely, it ever, has an ' island audience heard Handel's ‘stately masterpiece "largo" rendered. - so effectively. A “Toccata in G" tDu- ,‘ ;bois>, closed the programme and' iwas a revelation in technique. Vin- -_ ilin solos by Mr. Archibald Hume in- cluding the well known "Souvenir" [and songs by Mr. Lowell Hancock iincluding the favourite "’I‘rumpct:r interspersed the programme hntl were much appreciated. The organ accompaniments to these were of a high order. All music lovers in the community an looking forward in happy anticipation to the next. recit- al of the series. In consequence, I have no hesi- tation in endorsing this very wor- thy and necessary movement of the Trustees and the friends of th Hospital to raise a sum suffic- ient for the purpose of erecting a more suitable building, and one more in keeping with present day requirements -— a building WlllCh we all know will fill every require- ment and be a credit to the Prov- IJOSPITAL APPEAL’ ince. I feel confident that this appeal will meet with a generous support from all classes in the portions of this Province where it: will be made. I do not think that there is any necessity on my part to dwell upon the wonderful service that has been rendered by this Institution during the past forty-seven years. This will be attended to by those more qualified to speak than I am, but I would like to mention a few things of which I am cognizant. i Many thousands of persons from town and country have re- ceived relief and beneficial treat- ment within its doors. Many nurses, some who have achieved fame in other parts, have ob- tamed a proper and fitting educa- tion within its walls. Possibly six thousand persons have been treated free of all cost since its inceptiomand now that it has outgrown its usefulness, and the necessity has arisen for larger, better and brighter quart- ers, and for a larger staff, and a; greater school of nurses, I earnestly hopethat the effort now about to be made will be crowned with success by our generous peo- ple 1n town and country.
