Again it becomes my pleasing duty to welcome you in quarterly session, for the transaction of business and the Propagation of our prim siples, During the quarter just passed many matters of interest te us as temperance ad- Vocates have transpired, which should en- cou ua to still persevere inthe cause we have undertaken, : Our Local Wésislature feeling the in- fiwéenée of the temperance sentiment—which happily now cecome so general—have seen G6 to continue the office of Tuspector of Licenses, and have so amended the Act as to previde ene Inspector for each County. instead of, as formerly, having the whole Island under the supervision ef one man. ‘They have also given the Inspectors incresed powers, enabling them to enter into and searcl houses suspected of keeping li quors for Wiicit sale, and of dealing with ( nders in a mors expe ditions and sum mary manner, We trust these appoint- me nts will shortly be made and competent officers secured. Wel hail, with pleasure, the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada, in affirming the constitutionality of the Canad perance Act of 1878,” and rejoice can control such an efficient weapon. ¥ whilo we rejeice in having gained this ad- vantage, we should remain Yunshaken in our convictions of the desirability of complete prohibition. As you are aware, Prince and King’s County, and this city, have already ad- opted this Act by large majorities. The necessary steps are also being taken to test Queen's County, and with a result such as we anticipate, we shall in a few months have the traffic controlled by the iren hand of the Jaw threnghont the wholeisiand. It will then becomethe duty ofall irne temper ance men to assist in.enfercing the law and maintaining at inviolate, ever locking for- ward to the time when we can exalt in the entire freedom from this scourage fer our Tsiand home. Thus are we pleased to see the cause ex- tending, and the principles of our order more and more permeating the masses. In Love, Purity and Fidelity. Wms. W. Beer, G. W. P. On the Sth of February, most invariably keep all kinds of animals free from lice. We have made practice for i years past, of yiving heaping teaspoonfuls once A week to each of our cows, and the ‘Saine quantity to about every ten hens in our fieck, and they have never been truubled with lice in them. It may be given in the same proportion as to size when required in the food of poultry, pigs, and sheep. Sulphur is a mild cathartie when desired for this purpose, and in small doses seems to have a general bene- ficial effect on the animal system, some- thing like salt, though, of course, not ef that nature. gn dina tei tia.
