Other authorities attribute the condition In Bombay there are five free hospitals exclusively performing operations for the removal or cataracts. Even though 700 operations are performed daily, this service cov- ers only a fraction of the serious cases. Labor in Bombay is cheap with one ordinary worker making a- boug twenty cents a day. Since fruit and vegetables are abund- ant they can be purchased at cheap prices. The extreme heat that reaches 120 degrees and the lack of refrigeration necessitat- es the practice of burning perish- able foods including meats that are not sold before 10 a.m. each day.
