Litt. will address ‘the Canadian Club of Charlottetown on Wednesday, May 6 on “Oil, Power Politics, the Arab Awakening”. Brigadier Longrigg was educated at Highgate School and Oxford University. Had it not been for the first war he might have stayed at Oxford as a don. World events turned the course of ‘his life and his schol- arly inclinations turned—instead to research into the history of the countries of the Middle East where he made his career. In the first war he served in Gallipoli. and Mesopotamia. He stayed on as a#government of- ficial. in Iraq. until. 1931, when he joined the Iraq Petroleum Company. He travelled a good deal in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Palestine and formed a wide cir- cle of friends and contacts. During the late war he ser- ved on the General Staff (In- telligence) at Cairo. During. the latter years of the war he was Governor successively of the -var- ious former Italian colonies, Cy- renaica, Somalia, and Eritrea.
