The Captain of the vessel was entting a stick, when the axe, which he was using, flew off the handle and struck the boy, inflicting a wound as above stated. The leg was immediately dressed by Dr. Shreve.—S. J. Tus ** huge serpent,’ which caused so much excitement up the river a few years aco, has been seen again in the Deschenes Lake. The pro- gramme is an excellent one, and a rare musical and literary treat may be expected, and the price is within the compass of all— only 10 cents. Canapa is to receive a visit from a dis- tinguished Irishman next spring, Sir Ed- ward Grogan, who represented Dublin in the Imperial Parliament before Sir Arthur Guinness. Sir Edward, who is uncle of Dr. W. George Beers, of Montreal, made a good deal of stir in Irish politics in his younger days, and comes here with a view of studying the political and social aspect of the Dominion. It is probable that he will embody his experiences in Canada in a ook. .. Disp rrom Insurtes.—Edward McGrath, who fell from Lord’s wharf to the deck of the schooner ‘* Hattie” on Thursday morn- ing, was, yesterday, removed to the hospital on Grafton Street, where he died at about 12 o'clock last night, from injuries hereceiv- ed by the fall. He has no relatives in this city, and the place of his former residence is unknown. Tue Bettvian ALBERTITE AND OrL Com- vany.—Our reliable contemporary the Traro ‘* Sun,” says: ‘‘ The valuable. prop- erty of this Company is situated in the Parish of Dorchester, N. B., directly op- posite the villlage of Hillsboro, and opposite the wharf of the Albert Mining Company. Albertite is a mineral rock from which oil of the most valuable kind is extracted. At first Albertite was sold as low as $8 per ton ; very soon $19 and $20 per ton was the yuarket price. The Company lately formed in New Brunswick with Blair Botsford, Esq., of Sackville, as President—have the best leads and as valuable Albertite prop- erty as cant be found in any locality. The Albertite rock of the district, now owned by this Compamy, has undergone a most careful analysis by some of the most em- inent assayers in the Province, and shows that the property owned by the Company lately started under the name and designa- tion at the head of this article, contains! vast quantities of rock oil similar to that of the celebrated Hillsboro Albertite. From reading the careful analysis of this rock by competent assayers, and from diligent re- search and inquiry on our own part, we feel convinced that the Belivean Albertite and Oil Company is a good investment, and that a profitable return for stock taken in this Company may be reasonably expected. We would ask our friends to get the Prospectus issued by the Company, and carefully per- use it, and see if they do not find an oppor- | tunity for investing their surplus funds, that as far as human foresight can go, will. Macdonald & Bros. of this town, cleared at the Custom House to-day for the old country, and will sail with the first westerly wind, Her cargo consists of 18,- 500 bushels oats, 320 boxes potatoes, 390 pieces deals, valued at $8,500. The ‘‘ Archi- bald” was built at Cardigan.Bridge, and her construction was superintended by Mr. John D. Lewig, who has good reason t0 congratulate himself upon the appearance and workmanship of this vessel. —Adv. A Mucu Reparrep Sreamer.—We no- tice that the ‘“‘ Northern Light” is reported in good order. It would be interesting to learn what this very improbable feat cost, and how many good Grits had a finger in the pie. There is little doubt that a rare job has been perpetrated in the building of this vessel, and also in her repairing, and the facts should be elicited. The scandal- ous way in which first a Pictou Grit, then a New Glasgow supporter, then a Charlotte- town elevator, got each a five thousand dol-; lar job on the vessel, is a matter of common knowledge in Eastern Nova Scotia, and we presume ere the close of next session will be of the country at large.— Pictou Standard. —— Some of the Indians on ‘Lennox Island have been dangerously ill for some time past; but are now—owing to the timely aid, skilful treatment, and kindness of Dr. Byrne—fast recovering. The poor Mic- Mac on Lennox Island, appears to be sadly neglected, when sickness lays him prostrate. There are about thirty families on the Island, and no pdJovision, it seems, is made, nor any arrangement entered into, with any medical man to attend.on the poor ‘ pale- faced” creatures. Dr. Byrne has kindly vlounteered his servicee in aid of these poor sufferers, without expceting any (we believe) remuneration Heretofore, if a medical man sent in his bill for medical attendance and medicine, the Indian Commissioner was sure to make an o}jection, and finally a law- suit, the upshot is now, no medical man will.attend. Reform is therefora loudly called for. Where now, is the Indian Com- missioner, while sickness is in the wigwam ? We understand he has not been on the Island for some time. Whenever he is wanting, ‘‘ broder says not dare.’’—Com. to JOURNAL. The Situation in France. The French situation remains unchanged. The next move is expected to come from the Senate, which adjourned until Thursday. The General opinion seems to be that this adjournment was for the purpose of giving time to the Government to win the support of the Orleanists for extreme measures ; nevertheless the dispatches this morning in- dicate a calmer feeling than on the previous day. a Nae Shipping Intelligence. * By Cablegram to Hon, John Yeo.—Barque Muriel, Alexander Le Marchant, Master, ar- rived at Swansea, after a passage of 25 days from Port Hill, P.
