P. Foley speaking on the budget in the Legislature yesterday. Mr. Foley said there was noth- ing the matter with Island cats but he felt the sanitary conditions could be improved. He deplored the system of having cars line up for long distances at the ferry boats. "It would be much better if they put up a sign somewhere in the town saying there was no room on the boat." He felt the tourist industry was bringing in great wealth into the Province each year. He said it was a wonderful source of income to students alld it was an'educ- ation to meet so many people from other parts of the count . The Summcrside member tod the house of the recent discovery in the use of antibiotics which can be used for the preservation of meats. Not only did the anti- biotic preserve the meat in first class shape but it had a tenderiz- ing effect on it. He thought it was a mistake not to have a supply of fresh lobsters for tourists in between fishing sea- HON. E. P. FOLEY Foley who said that the young ileople who receive a good educ- ation don't seem to be able to take their place in a great many forms of employment. "We are really backward in our education- al system on the Island but the Government is doing everything it can to improve matters." He noted that s2.000.000 was be- ing spent for health and s.'i,000,- 000 for Highways. "We have a long way to go yet in the field of education though." have a feed of our lobsters." He suggested that some form of float be arranged that would keep the lobsters alive between seasons. "Some way should be found. I think this would be a good pro- ject for the Canadian National Railways." he added. Mr. Foley complained of the one who was well educated was made an officer and it was found that many of these men made very poor leaders. VOCATIONAL SCHOOL The speaker paid tribute to the .late Senator Jones for starting the Vocational School. He said boys come in there for six months and go out to earn a higher rate of pay than their instructors. Mr. Foley said the only bright spot in agriculture at the present time was potatoes. "1 don't see why the Opposition members are always advocating loans for young farmers. They won't stay on the farms that are already equipped so how are they going to stay on a place that is in debt for several thousand dollars." Mr. Foley stated that indiscrim- inate cutting of pulp wood was a ldangerous practice and warned gthe members that big pulp com- panies were willing to cut every- thing they got their axes on with- out regard for forest preservation. He pointed out that pulp was big exportbusiness and that last year it brought s650,000,000 into Canada. Mr. Foley also stated that a cer- tain Canadian Premier set a very dangerous precedent when he in- .terfered with newsprint prices a lshort time ago. He thought that lnewspapers should be able to pay the increase due to their increased lamounts of advertising in recent lyears. With reference to money loaning .companies he suggested that eo- lple should stick to Credit un ons 1 and the credit unions back the pea- l5""'W"II 1100 40 00 I absence of Plcmc grounds.
