McGuee, perhaps the most exciting ball player ever to play for the green and white has been named to both the AUAA All-Conference team and the CIAU All-Can- adian team. Last Saturday night in Halifax McGhee was named to the first all—star team in the Atlantic Conference and it certainly came as no surprise to anyone. Probably the best player in the , conference this year, he led our Panthers to a very surprising but well earned second place finish. His spectacular play also enabled the Panthers to be nations ally ranked and in short, put our team on the basket— ball man this Season. w , « w Arts student; Designer, Sandra Hodge. The Technical Director is Professor Carl Mathis, Department of Music. First produced at Covent Garden in 1773, "She Stoops to Conquer" ranks with the few plays of the Eighteenth 1 Century, which include the "Beggarls qEran, "Rivals" and "Sd'iool for Scandal", to have enjoyed popular favor for more than 200 years. However, being a member 01: a team that did not receive a lot of national exposure did not put him in a very good position to be rewarded with an All-Canadian selection. Everyone in Atlantic Canada knew he deserved it but that meant little in the political game that college sports play in. But in spite of the odds Larry McGhee conquered as he had all season and was named to the second All— Canadian team on Tuesday. He ; has been sent out to Calgary, site of the national tournament, to receive his honor and one which everyone at UPEI is glad to see he got. A native of linden, New Jersey, Larry came to UPEI as a fifth year player. Often players like him come to a school like this and just put in time. 'Ihey are often disappointed with the calibre of ball and just I go through the motions. Such was not the case with McGhee. He took charge from day one and aided coach Feighrey in molding a powerful basketball unit together. He led the team both on and off the floor and in short made the team what it was. He led the nation in scoring with a 28 point average. He was in the top 10 in Canada in shothing percentage, helped on the rebounding despite his size, averaging over 5 per game. Stole the ball with uncanny regularity and set up teammates with countless easy baskets. For Larry awards are nothing new to him. He was selected All—American, NAIA National Tournament All—Star, lone—Star All Conference and was a member of the American team in the Pan American Games. *6 V ‘x «a? or at anytime. Box 385 OF ATLANTIC CANADA How does one sum up his contribution to basketball at UPEI. . He has been a ' leader, but more importantly he has set a standard that LARRY in action will be used to judge greatness for many years to come. "He is without a doubt the finest ball player ever to play at UPEI. He has led the team trhoughout the year. The only thing I am disappointed in is that he was not the M.V.P. of the league. I know Larry doesn't mind because he is the type of ball player that is all for the team. However, in spite of the awards and publicity he is still modest and low key. been an honor to‘have coached him, "' commented Panther coach Kevin Feighrey. The plaudits for McGee could go on forever as he has provided fans with the most exciting basketball they have ever seen. In conclusion, perhaps the biggest disappointment of all is that Larry will not be returning to [PEI and his departure will be a huge loss.
