The ships will go by, he tells us, far from
our shores against which the sad sea
waves moan a requiem. Perchance
through a glass darkly the Heir Apparent
may catch the gleam of the Island's red
shore and languidly inquire what land
it is, but nobody on board will be able to
answer. “Once lt was not so." Once we
entertained the Prince who has since be-
come King. Now the humiliation of
Prince Edward Island is all but complete.
Our Liberal rulers-for of course from
the Examiner’s view point it is all their
fault-have but to go one step further,
vote away the name of the Island end its
status as a Province and have it incorprat-
ed as a county of Nova Scotia.
A man must feel very badly when he
writes like that, and we therefore extend
our sincere condolences to the editor of
the Examiner. Possibly it was he that
Mr. Cooper met while in Charlottetown,
and who impressed upon the western
editor the notion that the Island “had
given itself up in disgust.” At least there
isa striking similarity between the views
of the Canadian Magazine and the
Examiner with regard to the Island. It is
a had thing forany man to get “the blues."
It is doubly bad when the malady falls
upon an editor and he becomes a dissemi-
nator of gloom in the homes of the land.
Therefore we feel moved to remonetrate
with our brother editor and to cheer him
up, if that be passive. '

lation generally as comfortable and happy
as falls to the lot of any similiar commun-

Wherefore we bid the editor of the
Examiner to be of better cheer. Make
not the Conservative organ into a wind-
ing sheet. Those terrible Grits will not
hold power forever, and bye and bye there
will again be “fat takes” for Tory news-
pap&' men, who will enjoy their then good
fortune all the more for a. temporary fast.
Then will be sun shine, the birds sing,
the rivers run merrily to the sea and the

successful industrial exhibition. The
attendance was larger by 7,000 than ever
before; the receipts exceeded $50,000 and
there was paid out in prizes over $10,000
The directors were able to expend $3,000 on
capital account and pay od' one half their
debt of $10,000.
This year the apple crop almost
throughout the United States is short
and prices are ruling high. One man in
Missouri who hasalarge orchard and a
good crop has sold the fruit on the trees
for $75,000. The orchard in question
promises a crop of 100,000 bushels, it is
said. 'Ihe owner would have needed to
produce 107,000 bushelsof wheat at 70
cents, or 214,000 bushels of oats at %
e ents to have yielded a like monetary re-
turn.
