Miss -Annie, of Cardigan, drove to this
city on Monday last, to see for the
brother, Ernest. who is a sailor on one
of the drifters that visited Charlotte-
_town last week. Being in the city
` only one day. he was not permitted to
visit his home in Cardigan, or see
0 his parents, Mr. and Mfs. A. _ii»‘lcEscl\_~
' ern, who reside there. Five years
ago Ernest left his home .for the Can~
adian West, where he held a good
position in a lumber mill in Vancou-
I ver, but the call of his country was
strong, so over a year ago he enlist-
ed in the navy, and has until June lax
been in training on H. M. S. Rainbow,
Esqulmalt, when he was transferred
to Sydney, C.B.. and sent out on drift-
i ers from there. Ernest was a great
favorite in his home village, and his
many friends are glad to hear of his
welfare, and hope for a speedy tarm-
ination of this great war, when he
‘will return to his home and loved
ones. 5

peacefully to his eternal reward. Paul

was a man of 64 years, and had been
in falling health for some months past
having been afflicted with cancer. Al-
though the pain from his aflllction was
revere, yet he bore up under it with
that calm Christian fortitude posses-
sed by those who love their Saviour:
