Temperénte Movement. Corrunts All TetSteeg Abducted Final words of the Involve- ment weekend were uttered by Prof. Bert Tersteeg on Sun- day afternoon, following a rather “loose” Saturday even- ing. Ladies and Gentlemen, Having listened to some positive statements by the previous speakers I must con- fess that last night's events have altered some of my thoughts about the positive aspects of this weekend. I would, on behalf of those delegates 22$a mentioned in“ this statement, like to take this opportunity to point out some disturbing events which occurred last night. The leaders of groups 6 and 7, conveniently christen- ed the VSixPack and Sevenups” Prof. Robert Campbell and Gary MEbster have proven to be very unreliable characters. Their actions last night have caused me to disassociatey myself from them forever. I suggest that the others in the groups mentioned do the same. . ' After all, if they, in spite of their commitment to' the temperance movement, see/ fit to abduct an innocent mem- ber of their group in the “ middle of the night by lift- ing him out of bed, mattress and all, then their behavior becomes suspect. Furthermore, those two (so-called) gentle- men managed to inspire a very‘ respectable lady by the name Of Mary Ross to become tot-- filly.irrational and had her Jump into bed with the be- wnldered_abductee. To make .matters*wor5e,rthis all hap- pened in a place labeled off- limits to the members of the .conference. If involvement was the theme of this gath- ering, they certainly suceed- ed in establishing a new meaning of the word. Incident- ly, the bare facts of last night's events will be duly printed in the SUN. I would be amiss if I did not mention, negatively speaking, the behavior of some of the organizers of this conference of involve- ment. Marion Basha, the dean of women, gave an ex- cellent performance. I have known Marion as a Morrison 'for quite some time but since she became a Basha she certainly has lived up to her new status. Judging by last ' M/fl mam/W244 1/ night, she loves a good bash. Jim Griffith, despite his / suave manners was seen _ sneaking towards the cottage in which the spirits were stored with the obvious in- tent of strenghtning his per- sonal spirits and the spirit of his compatriots. Unfortun- ately, he ran into an unex-. posed problem. When opening the door to the hallowed' hall, he found the premises occupied by a group of female x}: Thessun, Thursday Sept, 2.9, .1927a paqu “7 '2 I‘T-‘ ’77 ME ident Ron Baker and Fred Von Dreger apart. Not an easy task at the best of times. More so since a firm left hook thrown by Bob Campbell and directed at Fred's jaw occurred earlier in the day. But knowing Fred, l was not suprised at the relative ease with which he danced a- way frOm his opponent and continued to upset the more conservative members of the gathering. ' y I should draw the attention to the fact that pictures were taken during the activities of this infamous night. In fairness to the people involv- ed and also with the desire to avoid any embarressment, ‘these pictures, including the negatives, may be purchased for a mere $75.00 each. Free enterprise is not dead yet. One particular snapshot was taken of David Morrison (Re- lious Studies) scaling the roof of the building in which the SixPacks and Sevenups were barricaded. Dr. Morrison driven by religious fervour, was trying to gain entrance Parth'PantS havjhg a SP'r'tedxthrough the chimney. How- admittedly hushed conversation.ever, the fire place was at Poor Jim beat a hasty re- treat and it was noticed that the encounter had a somewhat dampening effect on his in- itial zeal. I must not forget to men- tion the moderating abilities of Frank Ledwell who vol- untarily directed a frank and honest exchange of democratic dialogue by cutting everyone _short regardless of ones' position. He was particularly brilliant at keeping Pres- “ . ,. a ‘ v that moment burning a health- y fire and he reluctantly changed his mind. I hope that our revered ed- itor of the SUN will not mut- ilate this statement to the point that even I don't know what I was talking about. In summary, it was a great week- end and the people who did not attend were the losers. A warm thank you to all who made it work.
