Mr. MacKenzie has acquired : a Chrysler franchise and will be selling Plymouth. Valiant. Chrysler cars and Fargo trucks. The dealer has been es- tablished in Souris since 1954 and up to this time has been iselling another brand of vehic- es. Mr. MacKenzie's combination . garage -— service station a nd auto dealership has s h o w n marked progress since it open- ed for business nine years ago. in that period the business has been expanded twice and it now emnioys seven‘ people. His employees include Shel- daon Dixon, parts manager; Roy Coffin. service manager: .lohu Scott. Lloyd Jackson. and Wen- dali MacLaren. mechanics; Joe. Hennessey. salesman and Billy Jennings. (CPI This southwestern border town of 3.000. hub of a rich agricul- tural area. is getting a new ima e Part of the change is due to two Alberta businessmen who erected a steel foundry on .Mac- ieold’s abandoned airfield last fall . The plant is turning out eight to 10 tons of steel castings a day. co-owner George Barrett said in an interview. Within a year he expects production to jump to 50 tons. At that time he expects to increase his staff to 100 men from the present 20. Less than a year ago the busi- ness was simply the untried idea of Mr. Barrett and his partner, W. M. Thorvaldson. “We‘re really rolling here now." said Mr. Barrett. with the enthusiasm of a man who has seen a pet project suc- ceed beyond even his own ex~ pectations. IS OPTIMISTIC “In a year it should be the biggest business in the area. Anything that can be made of metal. we‘ll be making.” The plant. imported in pieces on four railway cars from Buf- falo.
