ENTERTAINMENT Bumper House at the Pythian V a ri e t y Show in the Prince Edward Theatre '7 ——_--___ Something quite new and alto- gether refreshing was the Variety Show at the Prince Edward Tliealtre last night, put on by local talent under the auspices of Eni- pire Lodge, No. 19, Knight; of Pythias. irl. l celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of tlie order. Tnene was a very large attendance and the frequent applause testified to the approval oi the audience. The three excellent comedy sketches which made up the the inaln part of the programme prov- ed “sure-fire" laugh provokers and there was not a dull moment throughout the performance. The individual numbers were very warmly received. A one act comedy farce by the Pythian players "That Rascal Pat" which followed the overture by the Casino Orchestra was rich “iii funny incidents. The scene was laid "in the lounge room o! the Hotel Peachgrove." “Pat Mc- Moggerty" may have been a “rascal" of a servant but he was one of the loveable kind. His role was admirably taken by Mr. T. H. White. The other parts "Charles Blackstone" (Mr. John McNeill), "Nancy" (Miss Bertha Stewart), "Colonel Puffjacket" (Mr. _A. G. Parks) and "Laura" (Mrs. Jas. Brady) were also well portrayed. The cast was under the experienc- ed direction oi Mrs. Fred Houle. A violin solo- by Miss Bernice Stultz followed and received an enthusiastic encore. Then came forward, shrouded in magic and mystery, “Ral Binds the Great" evidently all the way from Hindu- stan, who performed some aston- ishing feats of jugglery interspers- ed with the good old kind of comedy we feared had passed away. The --neirt.~_.-number,~ by the‘ Orpheus Eight. had mirth and melody galore. 1t wastlie Comic Muse weddedto melodious song, and proved as delightful to the ear as it was laughable. It was very inucn enjoyed by the audience. The characters were: “Jiggs" (Mr. G. Elmer Ritchie); "Men Jong" (Mr. J. P. Maclnnis); "Farmer Slow" (Mr. William Brennan) "Dusty Reggie's” (Mr. F. .l. McDonald), "Cowboy Jim" (Mr. V. Leigh Dingweli); "Jack Tar" (Mr. Jack Stems); "Jones oi the Lancers" (Dr. Earl Robins) and last, but by no means least, "Pansy" (Mr. A. G. Bruce). The piece was under the skilled direc- tion of Prof. Hire? Ball" A solo by Miss dith Rafuse was received with enthusiastic ap- plause and an encore was respond- ed to. Mr. ‘W. E.
