But at7 o’ciock p.m.,a despatch was received and we had the satiefaction of being able to afford all interested in the race the first authentic news of the strug- gle between the two yachts, Our readers may depend on Tue Examiner to furnish them with accurate news of the race as promptly as it is poasible to heve the telegraphic reports forwarded to us. --—-o---— THE LIBERAL CONVENTION Sin,—The reportsin the late Boston papers concerning the wild and d sgrace- ful scenes at the meeting of the Mass- achussetts County democracy were racy. But a good Yankee reporter could get better material for a spicy article if he had attended the recent Libera] Convention at Dundas. No blows were struck ; but bad talk and violent language were indulged in. You would not require wireless tele- phony to distinguish the voices of the contestants a mile away, A delegate told me that such wrangling he never before saw.” Ona motion to postpone the con» vention the “man in charge” suggested that all in favor of the motion shoulc “go out.” Two-thirds of the meeting went out ; and the remanent made the nomination. So ended the Liberal Convention the like of which was neverseen or heard teil of in this country for contention and disord- er. } ~ TRAVELL™R. feolinmiteiieatiiie Montreal Gazette: The Australian authorities are making their arrangements for the despatch of their troops to South Africa. Great crowds thronged the store all day and a very large portion of their trim millinery was disposed of. In con- nection with the opening the firm is mak~ ing alterations in their men’s furnishing department which will be fitted up with as good a line of furs as ever imported to the Island. To-day an ExaMINER reporter was shown through the apartments and was sliusk with the splendid display of furs, the largest and finest assortment cin . the Maritime Previnces. Nothing that can be required is wanting,—coats, capr, collars, capes and gloves. Passing from the furs, a magnificent array of ladie’s hats and bonnets was viewed. Mesers Sextner, McLeod & Co is the only firm on the Island who have ime ported French millinery this fall, end much artistic taste is shown by their selections. Ooe Parisian hat—a toque— was particularly admired, and was des- ctibed by one of the milliners. It was composed of turquoise beaver velvet, finished with gold sequent and chenille. Beautiful grey cupid wings epread out from it; and the whole was epangled with rhinestone ornaments. Other departments were visited andjthe beauties of the milli- ner’s art amply showo. Mersre Sentner, McLeod & Co, are to be congratulated on their splendid display acd the patronage of the fastidious which will always be theirs. With pleasure will their wext departure in a like direc- tion be welcomed. i een SOURIS TRAIN SERVICE. Sir,— Why cannot we have the express come through to Souris each afternoon, instead of having to come bome by a slow freight train as at present? I understand Mr. Sharp has been petitioned to have this } change made, but has declined to do As it 80. is, many of us prefer to drive to and from Charl>ttetown by post road _ to going by the slow accommodation train, and con- sequently much money is lost to the rail- way.
