Mrs. Fletcher say.~: "My Rheumatlsm was so had I could not get down to attend to my household work. The joints of my fingers were so swollen as to aimostmake two fingers and the pain was awful. I had tried several remedies but could get no relief till I tried Dodds Kidney l’ills. One box helped me and five boxes cured me completely." MIN, St. Avards, 4 19 eod dwtf. .fa y . whlchcannot be disputed and that is THE EDlTOR’S MAIL LETTER FROM INSPECTOR JEN- KINS. WM-ri I went to the city about 18 months ago to aid in enforcing the Prohibition Law, a slip oi paper was handed me containing the names of about 50 persons who were engaged in the liquor business. About a month ago from information received from reliable sources Ilcirned that. only 12 or I5 were in operation, with a few other places open to suspicion and many of those doing busi- ness very sbyly. If there are 40 places known by any of the officials to be still in operation, _or that are openly violating the law, I am not aware of the fact, and I think my sources ul’ information can be taken as irl reliable One fact I know however that many cl the oldest and worst places in the city have been closed and others greatly restricted in their operations. I can furnish at any time the names of 35 or more persons who were selling 18 months ago that are now out of business' some in jail, others have fied the country and some have gone out of business; and a law that can do this can close every illicit saloon in the city. Iadmlt however that there is yet too much drinking carried on and that much remains to be done, and I regret that just at a time when the Act was being made a power and its good results were being seen that an agitation should he started by some citizens for its repeal, and an effort made to reinstate violators of the law into good citizenship again. This action could perhaps be overlooked if it came from the saloon keepers them- selves, hut when respectable citizens take a hand in such matters it is certain- ly regrettable and humiliating. And their action is already bearing lrnlt. as can be seen in the more aggressive bearing of the saloons and in the opening up of other places which had been put out oi action. This however is no time for repining or sounding the retreat. The only antidote the writer knows is to Drive On and if 40 of those unlawful places exist let as ask God to help us in driving every one of them out of the city. I intend asking for the names and loca- tion of those places about which so much noise is being made (and I think I nm justly entitled to the facts considering the source from which the complaint comes). If they do exist to the extent named I have heen mlsinfcrrned and will need to lock for more reliable and trustworthy sources for my information in future. If they do not exist it is unfair to make such statements in public and be unable to prove them, Ruixrznr Jr-:NKxNs, Inspector. _____i--- WANTED -A case of headache that Kumfort iieadache Powders will not cure in ten minutes.
