Henry Penna of Man-~ tague gave an address on the possibi- lity and utility of an Epworth League On a country circuit. Fi om experience 'and observation the sp eaker showed it was highly possible and as to the utility there was no question. He al- ways found in the matter of church building or repairing where money was needed and he brought it before the _young people of the League that a ready response was the result. In helping along the 'prayer meeting. see- ing to the ventilation of the church, giving attention to strangers and in _many other ways proving the utility. of the society. He said a great deal of good could be done among the young 'by having a bunch of flowers each Sun- day placed on the pulpit or on a stand nerr by. lt need not be large but should be arranged with taste. 1 1 At 4.00 a round table conference on committees was conducted- by Rev G. M. Campbell ot Charlottetown. some excellent live minute papers were read on the different committees. On the look out committee Mr. George Ayer ot Union said when a stranger comes to our home we make 'him welcome by a kind word and a hearty shake ot the hand so should the members of the lookout committeehireat strangers who' come to our c urch _home andprotoim all those little aes ofkindness that come so easily within ,the reach ot_us all. He said the Ep- worth League Social is as purely evan- gelistic in its character as a prayer meeting and one planned _and carried out with this thought in view is its own sate guard against any improprie- ties. _ 1 _ ` Un th°s prayer meeiing committee Dr. J. H. ayer said you will never find a' good tai hful prayer meeting committee who can satisfy themselves even with their best efforts. He said two things are essential tirst the meeting ought always to be what its name suggests; a 'prayer meeting. It is through the medium ot prayer that we receive power for service and as it would be impossible to =1'l1I1 8- steam engine without steam so it is lm- possible to run a successful prayer meeting without power. 1 _ _ Second this must be a mit'ee,they mils; :le tholi. The opportunity of doing a great deal along this line is in the hands of the members of the Epworth League and a corres- ponding respousibility rests upon us. ln closing his address which was a most eloquent one,he impressed upon the members the necessity of concentrat- ing all their energy in carrying out civic righteousness. At 8.16 Rev. G.-F. Dawson of Corn. wall gave\a most helpful address on _Christian work. He said God"s idea with respect to men was not only to save us and take us to Heaven but that we may grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and develop the ‘vine nature in ue that we may eventually dwell to His glory in His presence for ever. The reason God permits us to remain here is that we may develop our lijves and characters by work that He may use us in the extension of His Kingdom. He does no: do for us tho 4-work that we can do for ourselves, or 'for one another. We must not only rpray hut make an eirnest _effort to answer our own prayers. l‘ _ . :At 8'30_iiRev. R. L.
