costs A A i A, ls ER AE. . : ' Drowned. A sab drowning accident ocourred in Hilisborough Bay on whereby Mr. Peter ‘Stewart, farmer, of | Belle Creek, lost his life. Mr.Stewart took passage in tho small packet which left Belle Creek with a cargo of oats on Wednesday morning. When they had passed Point Prim a thick snow storm prevailed and the wind blew strongly from the south. The Blockhouse light was not. visible, but the packet ram on in its direction, with mainsail guyed. About eleven o'clock a passenger named John H. Compton and one of the crew named Beaton were for- ward on the lookout, while the deceased was standing—unknown to them—on the windward side. The guy accidentally loosened and the mainboom gybed, struck the decease, knocked him overboard, breke the rudder, and the craft came up ia the wind. Compton hearing the splashes caused by his falling, and not knowing the deceased was on the deck, sang out to Beaton, ‘Are you all right.” Beaton responded that he was. Instantly Mr. Martin camo out of the cabin and asked if anyone felkoverboard. The cries of Stew- art were then heard in the distance. No boat was on board to launch, and nothing could be done to save him. Mr. Stewart isson of the lete Alexander Stewart, of Belle Creek, and was about 30 years of age.
