J.. a missionary in China since 1935 and presently one of eight Canadian Jesuits who are prisoners of the Communists at Sruchow. The above pictures are of Father Pineau, the one on the loft taken in 1935 prior in his leaving for China. The other picture was taken in 1947 after he had spent eighteen months in a Japanese MARCH 26. 1953 many of whom I know and remem- ber well. but also many whom I do not know. I count on you to ex- press to them my most sincere thanks. It is not easy for me to write each one, even a short word. You are much better situated than I am and I have no doubt that you will express my gratitude as well as I could do. Please tell them that by way of thanking them I recommend to God at each mas. them.-ie'ves, their relatives. and all their undertakings. I thank them especially for the masses and pray- ers offered for my safety. I accept them wholeheartedly.
