The regular melting of the P. E.
:Island Poultry Association will be
held this evening in Prince of Wales
College Hall at 1.30. As this will he
last meeting previous to the show,
there being important business to
transact, all members are requested
to be present.
J. W. Callbeck, Sunimcrside, who
underwent an operation in the P. E.
Island Hospital, has been removed to
his home and is now well on his wsy
to recovery. Mr. Callbeck was taken
upon the afternoon train Saturday
and through the kindness of the P.
E. I. R. Officials was made comfor-
table ,in a separate compartment. He
was accompanied by Mrs. Callbeck.
The death of G. Arthur Essory,
City, occurred at his home on Graf-
ton-Street Sunday afternoon at two
o'clock. Mr. Essory had been suffer-
ing for a. long period and his recov-
ery was hardly expected, The deceas-
ed was one of the best known of citi-
zens nnd was particularly well known
among horsemen throughout the
city and province as a horsemen,
having been identilietl with the horse
buying and exporting mid the livery
stable business for many years. He
leaves his mother, Mrs. George Es-
sory, a widow and two brothers and
a sister to uiourn. Thcsc are Herman
and Gordon in Massachusetts und
Miss Mary in this city. To the berea-
ved The Guardian extends sympathy.
Christmas Day, 1910, has passed
over and in the observance of it citi-
zens pin-sued the usual inode and reli-
giously and socially celebrated the
day and the subsequent holiday in a
manner akin to other years. With the
festive day there came u light snow-
full which made driving on the
streets just passable. Yesterday quite
a number took advantage of this but
_the numbers were not up to past
ycnrs. The religious observance of
Christmas was equally as pronounced
as in the past with the exception of
attendance at the services which was
not up to the usual nunibcrs for thc
season owing to thc rain fall in the
morning and the slcct: of thc evening.
Nearly all churches were appropria-
tely deeorated while in all special
music was rendered. The beautiful
carol service in 'l`hc First Methodist
Church deserves special mention as
does also the Christmas music of the
choir mid the organist. ln St. Paut‘s
St. James', the Baptist, Grace and
in fact, each of the others, there
were special Christmas numbers in
addition to the regular service and
the clergy delivered sermons appro-
priate to the occasion. As usual
much attention was paid to the iwor
and steps were tnken by different
churches and institutions which were
effective in relieving want and brigh-
tening many homes in the Christmas
season. `It is regrettable that there
was more evidence of drinking this
Christmas than in Xmas 1900. This
morning six drunks, taken in charge
Saturday evening, will appear, while
last Xmas three for over indulgence
in fiery liquid in the celebration of
thc day appeared after Xmas. '

NORTH SEA HAS
CLAIIAED YOUNG GRACE
LONDON, Dec. 23 - With the
approach of midnight no tid-
ings have yet been received from C.
S. Grace, the intrepid young avia-
tor who disappeared Thursday af-
ternoon while cssaying a return
cross-channel flight from Calais to
Dover, in an aeroplane and the be-
lief that generally prevails in Lon-
don is that the cold north sea held
somewhere on its turhulant breast,
the story of a tragedy. Every nook
and shore and iiilund where it was
thought, perchance, young Grace
might have landed were searched
today, but unavailingly, and the
boats that churned the channel and
portions of the north sea on the
lookout for the youth or wreckage
of his machine likewise reported
that their search had been in vain.
Grace carried with him petrol suf-
ficient: for a flight of about five
hours. His biplsne was ,not fitted
with pontoons. He wore a cork
jacket, but in-.case of a fall into the
water, he would have been enciim-
bered by his heavy fur-lined top
boots. 'Pliegenernl belief is that
it would be impossible for his ma-
chine to float for any great lciigtli
of time, and that unless the aviator
was rescued by a ship bound for
some distant land there is slender
hope that he escaped death in the
sea. _
LYNCHER GETS 20 YEARS
NEWARK, Ohio, Doc. 22-Twenty
years in the penitentiary was the
sentence passed today upon Montella
Wutha, \vho was convicted of man-
slaughter on Dec. 17 on ii charge of
having taken part in the lynching of
Carl Etherington, a "dry" detective
last July. A motion for a new trial
was overruled.
