his Week 1 We three intrepid food reviewers, g with several other X~Press’ ers, ed down to this new Chinese food nurant on a night out in late June. ortunately, the experience didn’t up to our hopes. The food was age, no complaints, but nothing standing either; however, the prices e above average, causing some scary ents as we contemplated the menu. staff did their best to cope with our ewhat rowdy group, and the wait- was very nice, (albeit a bit absent- ded). We never did get the pitcher ater we requested, and some of our ers got mixed up. She was kind ugh to let us play with chopsticks, ugh. In their defense, that was their ces have dropped since then. Less adventurous souls may want to stick with their old favorites, but if you want achange, give them a try and let us know about it! Jennifer: The Dragon Garden. Don’t go. The prices are higher than every- where else, the service was mediocre, the food was average. In June, we (most of the X-Press personnel from last year) decided we could afford to eat out; the natural place for us to do this was at Charlottetown’s newest Chinese Res- taurant. There were about 10 ofus and it took a while for our waitress to figure out how to seat all ofus. Finally seated, we peeked into the menu and then into our pocket books-- it was scary. The food was okay; nothing great, nothing exciting, but good enough that I ate all of Student Campus Police CIMN Ad Manager X-PRESS Production Assistant Circulation Manager Yearbook Ass’t Photographer Speaker for Student Council Chief Returning Officer Promotions Co-ordinator Student Receptionist it. Surprise, surprise. The waitress had a good sense of humour, and hey, if I was presented with the same group of people I would probably turn tail and run. She handled our wants with style and dignity. But.....[ never did get my water. I give the Dragon Garden Res- taurant 2 Fortune Cookies, cause they letus play with chopsticks. Late-break- ing rumour: My two colleagues tell me prices may have gone down, so maybe we’ll go back soon and find out. Eve- ryone deserves a second chance. Shannon:--Basically I agree with my companions’ assessment of the Dragon Gardon restaurant on University Av- enue. In my opinion, though, ‘‘aver- age’’ Chinese food in Charlottetown is pretty darn good. Stay home and eat Kraft Dinner Wok or the Canton Cafe, but they were certainly no worse. If the prices were above what I had expected, it was only by a few cents per dish. I found the Chinese food more reasonable than the Canadian side of the menu. As well, lunchtime specials are just as much food for less dough than eating at night. --As far as service is concerned, I have no complaints. We were a large party in a new restaurant late at night. The waitress was friendly and happy and to me that is what carries weight. It was their first week, and the Dragon Garden staff did well. --Like Jennifer, I would like to return to the Dragon Garden in the future -- so the food and service must have been pretty good! I am giving the Dragon Garden 3 cook- ies (I lived with Jen and sampled her cooking all last year, and now I miss it!). \ O \ i X G October 4, 1994 iii
