our comment A couple of weeks ago I listened to CIMN's Talk of the Campus host, Maurice Rogerson, delivered a long mono- logue on the so—called 'apathy ' of students. It was partly from the despair of having not Talk to Host, thus Maurice had to ramble on about some— thing (even if it was nothing); at which he showed. great skill. (Truthfully, I admire Maurice's mastery of wordage and would encourage readers to tune in to Talk of the Campus every Thursday at 4:30 ) Any way, Maurice seemed to be saying that students should get more involved in their student union because if they don't, a small number of persons, especially the union executive, are going to run everything and rightly so. Also, if there are not enough people,in—r volved in union activities, those activities cannot be completely success- ful. Maurice, also tried insults to encourage involvement, but I'm sure these were only another product of de- spair. Actually, I can sympathise with all of you pathetic slackers who like to jump onxthe wagon without giving any push. Pig 'N' whistles are great, reading The Cadre is great, but you dont have time to help out, right, too much studying to do and TV to watch. If that's NATIONAL STUDENT DAY N.S.D.which toox place on Tues. Nov. 9,]976,and was recognized by our Student Union, was not to easy to be seen. Plans to visit local High Schools, fell through as the schools de— cided not to have student representives from the university go to speak to their senior students. Nothing was done on campus, for N.S.D.,.not that any of the 'involved students' of U.P.E.I. -WOuld have cared abOut. Also, to add to the fall of celebrations there was nothing writtenor published in any of the local papers, 3 job our "Illustrious" Offmcer could have taken care of. (for example, CIMN, The Cadre, Student Council) should be, and is, to provide enjoyment and satisfaction to the participants. The main» purpose is not to provide a service, as most service-users expect. After all, the services system is bad enough out there in_the crazy rat- .race. and here at university, most people on committees are students and can't be volunteers full-time. So they have \ g to enjoy what they're doing" or if not I think they should stop doing it.
