CARPET CLEANERS NOTICE INOTICES Province of Prince Edward Island NOTICE re PARKED VEHICLES on HIGHWAYS | The presence of parked vehicles on a high constitutes a serious threat to 7 safety ‘and ficiency of snow plough The ¢0-operation of the public blic is requested to ‘eliminate this menace by aoerving the following safety measures during the Winter months. 1, Don't park on the highway. The practice of moving snow from private property, such as _ service stations, onto the hi way is dangerous and may cause accidents. sked to re-. The public a frain from thi practice | in the ety. interests of LIP MATHESON, Minister of Highways. arlottetown, Prince Edward Island January 3, 1962 DEPARTMENT OF 1 HIGHWAYS Prov'nce of Prince Edward Island CONCERNING SNOW-PLOUGHING RURAL MAIL BOXES | ; : < Now that our snow ploughs are again in the struggle to keep roads open to traffic, the matter of mail boxes comes to the fore While it is a fact that these boxes e no legal right to | dhe installed on a highway, it is recognised. that they do serve | @ useful purpose and are indeed part of our rural way of life. . But what happens when show banks form on our road sides right where the boxes are usually placed? Obviously ft is not possible to move the snow at high speed and spare the boxes. If we go slow we ean avoid the boxes, but as we only raise the snow banks when we plough slowly, we are adding to our troubles instead of curing them | If. we are going. to have open roads, they must be. ploughed @fficiently and_ that means as fast as the ploughs can safely “Operate. I believe the answer lies in removing the off | mail | boxes and replacing them with cheap temporary ones this | is done, you wil) not only avoid damage to your regular mall box, but you will also have better Winter roads. Your co-operation in this mattér. will be greatly appreciated. J. PHILIP MATHESON, . . Minister of Highways. Charlottetown, .
