The consignees refused to accept the consignments. The damage done during the stormy passage, consum- ing twenty days, was further augmented by the action of ealt water npon a large quantity of the beet sugar which com- posed part of the cargo. The ealt water attained a depth of five feet in the hold, and coming in contact with the sugar transformed it into practically valueless black molasses syrap. This liquid syrup in turn mixed with the balance of the cargo—composed of sanrkraut, rags, clay, zinc, beans, muriate of potash, and arsenic -and ruined all net enclosed in perfectly tight cases, —-- s2.0e —- — ‘MAKE HENS LAY.” Such is the caption of an adyertisemen that appears not only in the local, but many leading agricultural papers, ard which suggests the propriety of a few thoughts upon the subject, It may be lad down as a rule that most people indulge in raising poultry not for the pleasure it gives, but for the profit that is reelized from theeame, which must come from young chicks or eggs, and since the chicks must come from the eggs, the “real profit may be traced to egg production, sv the advice given in these words is of vital con sequence to the poultry raisers. “The advertisement referred to recommends Sheridan’s Condition Powder to make make hens lay, and so do we,” says Mr. A. F’. Hunter, poultry editor of Farm-Poultry. A hen to lay prolifically must be in perfect health, must be in conditis.n, and here is based the true theory of the value of Sheridan’s Condition Powder—it promotes the general good health of the fowl, gentiy quickening digestion, and stimulating ali the various organs of the body as wel! as tLe ovaries, to perform their functions.” At this season of the year the use of Steri- dan’s Condition Powder is very valuable for laying hens and young pullets. By its use now they will get to laying earlier when the price for eggs is very high. I. S. John- son & Co., Boston, Mass., the only makers of Sheridan’s Powder, will send for 50 cents two 25 cent packs, five packs for $1.00; or for $1.20 one large two pound van of Powder, postpaid; six cans $5.00, express prepaid. In Perrver’s Emvcsion the Oil, while retaining all its medical virtues, is com- pletely disguised both from eye and palate, 70 as to be agreeable to the most delicate stomach, while its curative effect is en- hanced one hundred per cent. by its acientific association with the salts of Phosphorus.
