The session of the Legislature which closed yesterday has been all imP°‘_`t` ant and eventful one. _ 1 he pl'0_V1S- ions made toward securing the Hills- borough bridge, an extension of the Lunatic Hospital and the erection of aVnew College building may be com- mended ae necessary and progressive measures. The provision to renflfr women eligible to seats _on the schoel boards’ is’ We tvhlnk I pro' per and useful one. There has been some other legislation dealing with various matters that may be commended. But the session will be memorable for bad measures as well as good ones, and notorious among the former is the legislation by which the system of liquor licenses has been restored to the statute book. And for that mea- sure the Liberal party is distinctly and solely responsible. It was con- ,cocted by them, introduced and car- ried into law by their votes against the combined votes of the Conserva- tive representatives in the Legis- lature. To their credit, be it said, every Conservative member of the g House, with asingle exception, was lin his place and recorded his vote against the iniquitous measure. Five of the ministerial ;party were absent from the tinal test vote on the third reading of thelicense bill,so that it was carried by the narrow majority of one vote- The absent five were Hon Messrs Sinclair and McL’aughlin, and Messrs. D. A. McKinnon. Wise and McWilliams. Of course their ab- sence from the final vote can in no way excuse them. They must answer back the license system to P. E. Is- land. The Iiiberal party of P. Is- land must bear this lasting- stigma upon their escatcheon. They them- selves have deliberately placed it there. As the Examiner states, Premier Peters was not a temperance Vman, l:ut he dared not propose a license law. Premier Warburton, himself a 'believe in the license system, with- drew abill that he had prepared to the opposition from the temperance community. It remained for Premier' that end, because of the strength of' Church Servic`cs.` 0 irivrizonisr. Prince St.-Prayer meeting at 10.15. Rev. Rav. G. M. Campbell. at 11 and Rev. D. B, McLeod. B.
