Morrison. . Fisnery Licenses.-- The Dominion Gov- ernment has been in the habit of granting licenses to tish in the rivers of the several pro- vinces. But, if Judge Fisher be right, that Geyernmen: transcends its power in doing so. His decision is that the Federal Government has no power to t licenses to fish in rivers beyond the point where the tide rises; that the right of fishery is incident to the owner- ship of the land, and belongs to the Local Gov- ernments, or to private owners, as the case may be. No doubt the question will go to the Su- preme Court or the Privy Council for final adjudication. —Monetary Times. Donations.—Rev. Mr. Paradis desires to publicly express his thanks to Rev. J. M. McLeod and Mr. Samuel Nash, of Ch’town, P. E. L, for the splendid collection of books presented to him the above gentlemen, for the use of the Mission Church Sunday School \ * im this place. The collection consits of 59 vol ‘and will be a valuable addition to the hi in the above Sunday School. Twenty- five of the volumes were received from Zion’s Church Sabbath School of Charlottetown, through Mr. Nash, who added twenty to these, and Rev. Mr. McLeod made up the balance. Two Roavs tv Lire.—-James Gordon Ben- net was a young Irishman who landed in Nova Scotia 40 years ago,. He taught school for a few years and then made his way to New York, where he started the now famous Herald. After a long career of prosperity he died a few years ago leaving several milliens ef dollars. Patrick Bennet was a young Irish- man, who came to New Brunswick about the time his ramesake came to Nova Scotia. He too taught school for some time and was taken in hands by some parties about the year 1845, who established a r and put him in charge of it. Paddy was one of the best writers for the press in his day around St. John, but bis love for the bottle overcame him, and after a few years he had mentee thie school again. During the last thirty years he has been teaching in various parts of the country, but when he goes to St. John he in- variably brings up at the police office; though upwards of 80 years of age, 4 melan- 83 Queen Street.
