(Special to the Guardian) MONTREAL, Jan. 9—Tenders have been in- vited by, the Canadian National Railways for the construction of a steel car ferry steamer for serv- ice in Northumberland Strait between Cape Tor- lnentine, N. B., and Port Borden, P. E. I. They will be received up to noon February 22, and the Ferry must be completed for delivery by July 15, 1931. Plans for the craft call for a vessel with an overall length of 324 feet, 310 feet between the perpendic- ulars, a moulded breadth of 59 feet and a mould- ed depth of 25 feet, a draught under full load of 19 feet, three inches and a dead weight capacity of 1,380 tons. The new ferry will be twenty four feet longer than that at present in service and will have a capacity greater by six modern freight cars. It will be equipped with eight boilers developing 8,000 I. H. P. with three triple expansion engines. two operating the two stern propellers and the other the bow propeller; this latter being neces- sary to meet ice conditions. in order to facilitate operations ty automobiles.
