Speeches were made by Colonel Holiday, ex-Governor Robinson and others, and a series of resolutions adopted setting forth that the prohibit- \ory amendment and consequent legisla- tion have proved most detrimental to the best interests of Kansas, that both foreign and native immigration has been stopped and lhe growth of the that municipal cor- porations are threatened with empty treasuries; that the expenses of courts are being greatly increased instead of diminished, as was claimed by the friends of prohibition; that a further attempt to enforce the law will be detri- mental to the moral as well as to the material welfare of the people ; therefore we heartily endorse the sensible course of the Mayor and City Council of Topeka in their endeavor to save their constit- uency from ruin; that we demand the repeal of the iniquiteus law so that Kan- sas may again secure her share of immi- grants, and that peace, good order and prosperity may return to our state; that we demand the euforcement of the law by fair and constituttonal means only ; that we deplore bull-dozing in law as well as in politics ; and that we recommend a little moderation and temperance in aill things to our prohibition friends.
