front" to tht- public in his office, but
when is comes to paying doctors and
nurses bills for a family, that is out
of the question. The only help the
wife can offer. if sho stops working

does not cut expenses so very mitch
in that way.
The root of the marriage problem is
economic and social. rather than edu-
cational. Men in the trades manage
to marry and raise families, while
men in offices atid stores earns more
than aii office man. who wears better
clothes, but usually he is willing to
live more nearly according to the
standards of our grandfathers. The
whole situation is friglitfully topsy
turvy, and the reason that we have
not realized it more fully is that the
ranks of our workers are recruited so
largely from the children of immi-
grants. lint the topsy turvyiness em-
braces quite as many men and women
who never went to college as it does
of college graduates. The attempt to
throw the blame upon the wonie-ii`s
colleges. simply because their statis-
tics are easy to get. is silly.
