We have on hand a large § stock to select from. SIR.-In myletter in reply to Plain Wor- _ shipper I attempt to make a certain classi- fication of Christian churches. In your editorial reply, you deny that thechurches classed as Catholic belong together your reason for it being that there are wide differences between them. I think you are not reasoning correctly as the same line of reasoning would lead you to discard the word “metal” as a class name because iron and gold are inseparably divided. I mentioned several things that the class of churches that I termed Catholic, held in common as differentiat- ing them from Protestant churches. I beg to add another point that is common as between them andis not to he found in ProtUtautChurches; that is, that the Catholic Churches all teach their followerf to pray. for the dead; and it is beoausethin- is a point on which all Catholic Churches agree. the High Church School consider it one reason why the Anglican communion should follow a custom sanctioned by their Church. As to the actual division between these several churches I take it that Iam cor- rect in saying that the only real case where there is not inter-communion is be- tween the Roman church and the others. The _Anglicans do not forbid Romanists to communicate with them at the Lord’s table, but the Romanists advancing cer- tain claims do not permit members of any other church to partake of their commun- ion. On the other hand I would point out to you some facts that show that there are not “wide and impassibic_ gulfs" between the Anglican and Greek churches. The Armenian pedlars who come here belong to the Armenian church, a Catholic Church of unquestional anti- quity. They take the Sacrament of the Lo:d`s Supper in the Anglican church, usually here, in St. Peter’s (Jathedral, and Q their clergy do the same and arealsoallow- L ed to ofliciate in Anglican churches. On ' the other hand Protestant ministers are not allowed to ofiiciate in Anglican churches, hence the strange spectacle pres ented at the Week of Prayer last January when the clergymen of the Protestant churches in this city having united with the Rector of St. Pauls in services this dilerent church buildings of théidifererrt denominations. found that although the Rector went to and conducted services in the other churches he could not invite the » ministers todo the same in his church. Or again consider the recent consecration of a. _ Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal church at Fond du Lac, re-essential unity of the Anglican, the Russian and the Old Catholicchurches.0n that occasion was demonstrated by the presence of Bishops of the Russian, Greek and Old Catholic churches, all of whom took Dart in the service.
