WILD WEST RODEO» THEME OF “CALGARY STAMPEDE" Calgary, once a rootln‘. $009M wild west town sprawled over the crossing of rangeland trails in the Canadian Rockies, is today a bust- ling city. But for a week each year, this busy metropolis takes time out to recall it romantic history with the staging of the Great Stampede, a gala rodeo celebration. Here, guests from every province of the Dominion and many from below the border are given hearty wel- come by Indian braves and white men alike. All the color, action and excitement of this great celebra- tion has been captured in Warner Bros.’ two-reel Technicolor short subject, “Calgary Stampede." which is currently the added attraction , at the Capitol Theatre. Directed by Saul Elkins, Calgary Stampede was supervised by Gor- dorgj-Iollingahead. A lively musical score was prepared by William Lava and Art Gilmore spoke the narration written by Herman Boxer. “UP IN’ CENTRAL PARK” cal extravaganza, “Up In Central Park." which had a long and suc- oessful run as a Broadway play. opens today as a motion picture at the Prince EdwardTheatre and it may be said with sincerity that the film version not only recaptures the color. beauty and gaiety of the original but outshines it. Packed with splendid music to which the lovely voice of Deanna Durbin does full justice and balanced nicely with a credible story. the Univer- sal-Internationai picture is big time entertainment. Co-starred with Miss Durblri are Dick Haymes, inthe role of a cru- sading young reporter and Vincent Price, as the politically ruthless Boss Tweed.
