the United Shoe Machinery Company
to prevent the Thomas G. Plant
Conipany, of this city, from using
certain machinery which the machin-
ery company claims infringes on its
patents, the Plant Company and
’I‘hornas G, Plant, who was made a
co-iiefeiidant, filed their pleas in the
Massacliusetts supreme court. today.
'l‘l1e pleas are practically identical,
and setup the claim that the United
Shoe Machinery Company is an ille-
gal combination in restraint of
trade and that the leases of its`ma-
chinery tu the Plant, Company and
other _shoe inanlifactliring companies
are tlierefore invalid. The leases in
question provide that the concerns
using the machine mahufaetured by
the United Company shall not use
those of any other manufacturer.
As a result of this line oi defence,
it is expected that the court will go
into the details of the combination
of shoe machine manufacturing com-
panies into the United Company.

are fitted with,patent troughs, fresh
water faucets, special ventilation,
brilliant lighting and natural drain-
age. The sheep pens, piggery, horse
boxes and poultry houses are alike
new 'and modern, The architectural
designs for these structures were
made from the best cattle accommo-
dations heretofore standing, with
special facilities made possible by the
sloping condition of the St. John
grounds. The safety and cleanliness
of the animals and the convenience
of .sight-secrs have ‘been kept in
