ACCEPTED GRAFT. ` NEW YORK, Sept. 11.-The admis- sion that at least part of thc money generously placed to his credit by the president of the New York St/ate irsed to insure legislation at Albany Street Railway Association had been ‘fe,ir’ to the street railroad interests of the state was made -on the stand yesterday by Louis Bedell, former ns- semhlyman from Orange country. Be- dell struggled for two hours to ex- plain a very extraordinary banking and stock speculation account opened for him with the now defunct/ broker- age firm of Ellingwood & Orrnninz- ham, by G. Tracey Rogers, known as a traction lobbyist and president of the State Street Railway Associa- tion. This account, Bedell testified, was opened by llogera, in an effort to i-n- demnlfy him (llerlell) for stock losses incurred partly through ltogei"s fault. l-Ie had emburkerl in stock specula- tion nt; the instigntion cr! lingers, he said, had lost, and it was to help him recover this loss, for which ltog- ers felt lledell was not nltogetlrci' re- sponsible, tliat from time to time sums 'aggregating $24,281 had been placed to his credit. Under ci~oss-examination, however, the witness admitted, that in the live years covered by his accoiuit, with Ellingwriorl and (liiiiiiiriglinm, $2l,28l had been placed to his credit. (if this uinouuf- the books showed that he had drawn out on cash $21,750. When the firm failed he owed $7,065,130, and this amount he admitted had never been made good. ’l‘here is more Catarrh in this section of the country tlian_ all other diseases put together and unti_l the Inst few years was supposed to be incurable.
